In today’s modern world it seems that our attention is on everything but ourselves. It’s all about doing, going, cleaning, working, driving the kids around, running errands, it feels like it never ends. If you hardly have any time to focus on yourself how can you expect yourself to be happy and successful? Here are some tips and tricks for creating a lifestyle that builds a happier you!

Retail therapy is often discredited by many people and while it shouldn’t be viewed as a fix-all it does have benefits that shouldn’t be ignored. Purchasing items that reflect the you, you want to become is like an active way of setting goals. If you purchase fitness wear or work out gear chances are you’ll be more inclined to live a healthier, more active lifestyle. Retail therapy is more than just a little pick-me-up. It’s a way of actively participating in the life you see for yourself. It’s like physical manifestation in the most literal form. Places like Kohl’s have everything you could need for your new life. From workplace clothing for the career minded individual to work out gear for the health focused person in you! You’ll find everything you need to start living a better life at Kohl’s.

Of course there are the tried and true methods of self help that have lead generations of people to happiness. Some of these methods include:

  • Exercise and healthy eating
    • Taking care of your body often helps take care of your mind
    • It can elongate your life
    • Exercise eases symptoms of depression and anxiety
  • Relaxation
    • Reducing stress by relaxing and taking time for yourself is helpful
    • Reducing stress can elongate your life and greatly improve your health
  • Building relationships
    • People need people, it’s just a fact
    • Furthering communication skills can have a profound impact on happiness

Let’s take a closer look at that last one. When you think of building a happier you, or creating a lifestyle that you’ve always envisioned what do you think of? Most people tend to think of the first two methods listed above. Exercising, healthy eating, and relaxation. However all of those are more focused on ourselves. Of course this is a great place to start. You can’t possibly build good relationships with others if you don’t have a good relationship with yourself. However many people tend to get stuck on the first two. They focus on themselves so much that they don’t know how to push past that. It’s important to note that building a better relationship with yourself isn’t always the goal, it’s just the beginning. The ultimate goal is to create lasting, meaningful relationships with other people. These relationships are possible because of the happiness you feel with yourself. So it’s all connected!

In the end everyone’s journey to a happier self is going to look different. Retail therapy may work for some but not for others. Remember that tried and true methods like self love practices, de-stressing activities, exercise, and healthy eating can all lead to a happier you. Which in turn leads to more meaningful, lasting, and positive relationships. In the end all we really want is to be connected. That is what makes us happier!
